And we finish with a kick drum in the last channel. Then, we have an open hi hat sound, with just a couple of hits along the pattern. We also have two snares, with different sounds, to make them more interesting.

In this case, we have again a hi hat channel with hits in every two steps, but we added the rolls at some points, plus a hit in a lower pitch, as you can see in the second image. This is the channel rack for the next example:Īnd these are the details, shown in the piano roll, for the top channel, which is the hi hat: This example is much simpler than the previous one, but it is still very interesting. Then we have a crash, just at the beginning of the pattern. The clap has a higher pitch and the snare has a lower pitch, so that the arrangement is more interesting. And then a snare, that makes a good match with the claps. In this case we have a simpler hi hat, playing every other step. The channel rack for this example looks like this: See the three fast hits at the end of the sequence. Then we have two snares, with different sounds, just to enrich the arrangement. There is also a tambourine that is coupled to the first clap. And the second one, with only three hits is a lower pitch clap.

The first one, with four hits, is a higher pitch clap. This is how the piano roll looks like for just the first channel in the Channel Rack, showing the main hi hat plus the hi hat rolls: And for this example I made a really cool trick, which is adding an effect with the hi hat but making multiple and fast hits in a different pitch (this is called hi hat rolls). The main hi hat is usually played every two steps. This is the channel rack with the drum sequence for this example: OK! Let’s move on and see these patterns examples! If your software doesn’t have a channel rack, you can draw the patterns in the piano roll. I used this Channel Rack to create and show you the examples. FL Studio has something called the Channel Rack, which is the window where you program the drums. But if you do not have this software, you should be able to re-create the patterns using the program you have.

You will see that I used FL Studio to create the patterns for this article.

By re-creating these patterns in your computer, you will get a much better idea of how to start creating your own drums sections for your songs. That way you can hear the arrangement and you can also practice the programming of every sound. It is important that you create or draw these patterns in your music production software. I want to share with you several drum sequence patterns that include hi hats, kicks, snares, claps and other instruments, and that you can use as examples so that you see how these instruments are used in a beat. A lot of beginners could have this problem, and I think using drum patterns examples can give you an idea of where to start. I wasn’t sure how to do the hi hat, where to put the snare and the kick, and so on. At the beginning, when I just started making beats, it was difficult for me to imagine how to create the drum patterns for my project.
